Elon Musk claims he was ‘tricked’ by the ‘woke mind virus‘ into allowing one of his sons to become a transgender woman.
The Tesla CEO has long had a contentious relationship with daughter Vivian Jenna Wilson, 20, though that was previously over political disagreements, with Musk having called her a ‘communist’ who thinks ‘anyone rich is evil.’
Jordan Peterson, who was conducting the interview, called Musk’s initial concerns about suicide ‘a lie right from the outset’ and said there was ‘never any evidence for that’, arguing that underlying depression and anxiety cause higher trans suicide rates rather than gender dysphoria.
In an interview Monday, however, Musk has made his strongest comments yet against her decision, calling what happened to the billionaire and his family ‘evil’.
‘I was essentially tricked into signing documents for one of my older boys, Xavier,’ he said, using Wilson’s former name.
‘This was really before I had any understanding of what was going on, and we had COVID going on, so there was a lot of confusion. And I was told Xavier might commit suicide,’ Musk added.
The South African billionaire has fathered a reported 12 children over last 22 years and has spoken publicly about his view that the world is underpopulated.
He had his kids with three different women, Canadian author Justine Wilson, musician Grimes and his employee, Shivon Zilis. His youngest child, with Zilis, was born in 2024.

‘I was tricked into doing this. It wasn’t explained to me that puberty blockers are actually just sterilization drugs,’ he said.
‘I lost my son, essentially. They call it ‘deadnaming’ for a reason. The reason they call it ‘deadnaming’ is because your son is dead, so my son, Xavier, is dead, killed by the woke mind virus.’
Deadnaming is what transgender people typically refer to others calling them by the name they went by before they began to transition.
Unlike other billionaires, Musk has not spent heavily on political donations but has previously given to both the Republicans and Democrats.
However, in recent years, Musk has seemingly leaned more towards the GOP.
Musk told Peterson that his right-wing awakening has been spurred on by this process and the trickery he claims was played upon him.
‘I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that and we’re making some progress,’ he said.
Wilson legally changed her gender to female and her name from ‘Xavier’ to Vivian Jenna Wilson in 2022, while revealing in court filings she ‘no longer wishes to be related’ to Musk ‘in any way’.
While the South African billionaire was ‘generally sanguine’ about his daughter’s transition, he has since slammed her, calling her a ‘communist’ and blaming her political views on the expensive private high school she attended.
But according to an excerpt from a biography of Musk, it has been claimed that the Tesla CEO’s rift with Vivian ‘pained him more than anything in his life since the infant death of his firstborn child Nevada,’ who died just 10 weeks old of sudden infant death syndrome.
Further confusing matters, he famously tweeted in 2020: ‘I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare.’ And: ‘Pronouns suck.’
Vivian was born a twin with her brother Griffin in 2004 in California to Musk and his first wife Justine, whose maiden name Wilson she has now adopted.
All of Musk’s children attended the wildly expensive Crossroads K-12 school in Santa Monica, where annual tuition costs up to $50,000.
Just last week, Musk announced that he was planning to move X, the social media formerly known as Twitter, from California to Texas over a new law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom.
The law bans school districts from requiring staff to notify parents of their child’s gender identification change.
Musk called the change in code the ‘final straw.’
‘I did make it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws of this nature would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children,’ Musk wrote.
Tesla, where Musk is CEO, moved its corporate headquarters to Austin from Palo Alto, California in 2021.
Musk has also said that he has moved his residence from California to Texas, where there is no state personal income tax.
SpaceX builds and launches its massive Starship rockets from the southern tip of Texas at Boca Chica Beach, near the Mexican border at a site called Starbase.
The company’s smaller Falcon 9 rockets take off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and Southern California.
It’s just below South Padre Island, and about 20 miles from Brownsville.
Though he spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on her, and her siblings’, education, the pair reportedly are not close, with text messages revealing that she tried to hide her true gender identity from her dad for several years.
On top of this, he has since publicly lambasted her and her political views, claiming she believes that all rich people are evil.
Vivian filed the petition just three days after her 18th birthday, though the court documents weren’t made public until the day after Fathers Day.
In a tweet the night her daughter’s petition was granter, mother Justine said: ”I had a weird childhood,’ my 18 year old said to me.’
‘I can’t believe I’m as normal-seeming as I am.’ ‘I said, ‘I’m very proud of you.’ ‘I’m proud of myself!”
Meanwhile, on Fathers Day, Musk tweeted prior to the revelation of her filings: ‘I love all my kids so much.’
A private woman, she was not spotted in public until several months after her petition was granted.
Vivian reportedly came out as transgender via text to her aunt when she was 16, but implored her to keep her gender identity from her father: ‘Hey, I’m transgender, and my name is now Jenna. Don’t tell my dad.’
Musk said during an interview with the FT in 2020 that while his relationship with his daughter ‘may change… I have very good relationships with all the others [children].’
‘Can’t win them all,’ he added.
More recently, he told his biographer that his attempts at winning her over have not been successful.
‘I’ve made many overtures, but she doesn’t want to spend time with me,’ he said.
