A Boeing 737-300 aircraft crashed during takeoff at Blaise Diagne International Airport, injuring ten people, four seriously.

An Air Senegal flight operated by Transair experienced a severe accident early Thursday morning during takeoff at Blaise Diagne International Airport in Senegal. The Boeing 737-300, destined for Bamako, Mali, failed to ascend and overran the runway at approximately 1:14 a.m., according to a statement from Senegal’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport.

The aircraft, bearing the serial number 6V-AJE, ended up on a grassy bank outside the runway, sustaining notable damage to its left engine. Videos of the aftermath have circulated online, showing the extent of the damage.

Out of the 78 people aboard, including two pilots and four cabin crew members, ten were injured, as reported by the Senegalese military. Four of these passengers are reportedly in serious condition.

Following the incident, operations at Blaise Diagne International Airport, which is the primary airport serving Dakar, the capital of Senegal, were temporarily halted. The airport was closed for several hours, leading to delays and the rerouting of other scheduled flights.
