Singer Chappell Roan made headlines on Sunday by revealing that she declined an offer to perform at the White House pride event. She shared this news during her performance at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City.

Addressing the White House’s invitation, Roan said, “In response to the White House who asked me to perform for Pride: we want liberty, justice and freedom for all. When you do that, that’s when I’ll come.”

Her statement garnered immense support from social media users, with many hailing her as an “icon.” Another wrote, “That’s why she’s my favorite artist’s favorite artist, and my favorite artist at the moment.”

A third person wrote, “This is so Gaga coded! I love her so much. We’ve NEEDED another outspoken LGBTQ+ pop idol for a while. Chappell World Takeover incoming.”

Another user commented, “Chappell roan opened her gov ball set by projecting a giant “am i gay” quiz onto the jumbotron, popped out of an apple in full green body paint as the statue of liberty, told the white house to go f–k themselves, and played a new song, and this is why she is the moment.

Yet another user wrote, “Chappell Roan came out on stage dressed as the Statue of Liberty demanded freedom for women/trans people + occupied territories, + called out the White House directly for having the audacity to invite her to perform for pride.”
In addition to her statement, Roan also debuted her new song, ‘Subway,’ during her performance at Governors Ball.
