Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign took a swipe at X Corp owner Elon Musk on Monday night, calling the billionaire tech entrepreneur a “lackey for Team MAGA” during his record-breaking X Spaces discussion with former President Donald Trump. In a fundraising email distributed to Democrat voters halfway through the live-streamed event, the Harris-Walz team accused Musk of “ruining” Twitter and using his wealth to “try to control our democracy.”
“The two worst people you know are live this evening,” read the headline of the email from the Harris campaign.

The message began with an adamant refusal to call the app X, then continued:
It’s not enough that Musk has pledged to donate millions of dollars to help reelect Trump. He’s using his purchased platform –— one of the largest social media sites in the world — to spread Trump’s unhinged and hateful agenda to millions of users.
The email then asked supporters to “chip in $25 now to help Kamala and Tim have the resources to respond to their lies.” Donors were provided with a link to ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s primary money laundering online fundraising platform.
Team Harris continued:
The richest person in the world is a lackey for Team MAGA.
Musk already ruined Twitter by allowing hate speech and disinformation to flood the platform. Now, Musk is using his vast fortune and broad reach to try to control our democracy.
This is likely in reference to recent reports that Musk has committed $45 million per month to a pro-Trump super PAC, though Musk has not personally confirmed that these donations are actually taking place.
Following the X Spaces conversation, the Harris campaign put out a statement responding to “whatever that was.”
Donald Trump’s extremism and dangerous Project 2025 agenda is a feature not a glitch of his campaign, which was on full display for those unlucky enough to listen in tonight during whatever that was on X.com.
Trump’s entire campaign is in service of people like Elon Musk and himself – self-obsessed rich guys who will sell out the middle class and who cannot run a livestream in the year 2024.

Shortly after this, Musk said that he was “happy to host Kamala on an X Spaces too.”

Harris has notably not done an interview or made an unscripted statement since replacing President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee three weeks ago.
