Israeli journalist Bitton Rosen of Channel 14 first shared the news on X, formerly Twitter.
Rosen wrote: “As we first published: the attack in Beirut was aimed at Nasrallah’s successor Safi al-Din. From what I understand, it’s definitely in a positive direction.”

Who Is Hashem Safi al-Din?
Hasheem Safieddine, or Safi al-Din, is a Lebanese Shia cleric who has served on the executive council of Hezbollah since 2001. As per some reports, he was slated to take over the command of Hezbollah after former Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah was killed in a similar airstrike on Beirut. He is also the maternal cousin of Nasrallah, as per a report on the website of Alma Research and Education Center.
Born in 1964 in southern Lebanon, Safi al-Din is a key Hezbollah leader, serving on its Shura Council and as head of the Executive Council, which oversees daily civic operations. He studied in Qum, Iran, with Nasrallah, and married into a prominent Shiite family in 1983. Safi al-Din took charge of Hezbollah’s Beirut area in 1994 and its military Jihad Council in 1995. He was promoted in 1998 to lead the Executive Council, making him Nasrallah’s designated successor.
