Hezbollah Launched Drone Attacks On Israel

Israel has vowed to completely eliminate Hezbollah’s Unit 127 – the unit responsible for the production, maintenance and operation of its UAVs – after the deadly attack on the Golani training base on Sunday night which resulted in four casualties and many injuries. According to Israeli media reports on Monday, Israel has now made it its top priority “in terms of intelligence collection and airstrikes” to eliminate every member of the unit.

Four soldiers were killed and 58 others injured when a Hezbollah drone struck the military base in Binyamina in north-central Israel on Sunday night. Reports state that the troops were gathering to eat when the drone struck. The attack happened around 7 pm. Earlier on Monday, the IDF announced the names of those killed in the attack: Sgt. Alon Amitay, Sgt. Omri Tamari, Sgt. Yosef Hieb, and Sgt. Yoav Agmon.

According to Israeli media reports, the drone attack was part of a multi-pronged aerial attack. Apart from three drones, there were three short-range rockets and three precision rockets that were fired towards north Israel and Haifa. Out of the three, two drones were intercepted by the Iron Dome as well as the Israeli Navy. The third was chased by Israeli jets and helicopters but could not be shot down. According to the Times of Israel, which quoted the military, the drone dropped of the radar 30 miles northeast of Acre. The IDF assumed it had crashed.

Till date, around 1200 drones have entered Israel, and out of these 221 have passed Israel’s defense systems.

In view of the threat, Israel has updated its siren warning system. Now there will be more sirens and more false alarms. A drone will be assumed to be still flying even if it disappears off the radar, and will be called “crashed” only if evidence is found.
