Following Donald Trump’s decisive victory in the recent presidential election, President Joe Biden addressed the nation on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful transition of power scheduled for January 20. In his remarks, Biden urged Americans to lower political tensions and view each other as fellow citizens rather than adversaries, stating, “You can’t love your country only when you win.”
“Yesterday I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory,” Biden declared. “I assured him that I’ve directed my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. That’s what the American people deserve.”

“A country chooses one or the other. We accept the choice the country made,” he continued. “I’ve said many times, you can’t love your country only when you win. You can’t love your neighbor only when you agree. Something I hope we can do, no matter who you voted for, you see each other not as adversaries, but as fellow Americans.”
Biden claimed that Trump’s victory should “lay to rest the question about the integrity of the American electoral system.”
“It is honest, it is fair, and it is transparent, and it can be trusted. Win or lose,” he said.
The outgoing president acknowledged the contributions of election workers and reaffirmed the integrity of the electoral process, contrasting his acceptance of the results with Trump’s previous refusal to concede in 2021.
Vice President Kamala Harris also conceded, encouraging her supporters to remain hopeful and committed to the fight for democracy.
Biden invited Trump to an Oval Office meeting to facilitate a smooth transition and expressed a commitment to ensuring that the will of the people prevails in a democracy.
